For QIR/MG, as promised

1. I’ll respond with something random about you.
2. I’ll challenge you to try something.
3. I’ll pick a color that I associate with you.
4. I’ll tell you something I like about you.
5. I’ll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I’ll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I’ll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours.

1. I was thinking earlier today of the time we went hiking in Oakland and were discussing your surprise appearance at Shitcago Fest. I remember how excited I was and how glad I was that you were going, and I remember the smell of the dirt and eucalyptus and pine. I was so young.

2. I challenge you to look at yourself every day, whether it be in the mirror or just looking inward, and pay yourself a compliment. Because you are beautiful and you deserve to hear it every day.

3. Cerulean blue of your eyes, cobalt blue of your favorite kitchen implements.

4. I like that you strive to make/give personal, meaningful gifts to those you love. You really put a lot of thought into the gifts you give, whether they be handmade, store bought, or just graceful gestures, hugs, or wickedly delicious grins, eyes sparkling. Someday I hope to pay forward the generosity you've shown me.

5. The first memory is, of course, of our meeting before my trip to Europe at the Mexican place in Berkeley, though my strongest and clearest memories are of the times I have seen you the most happy - dressing up with Adam and Blair and Bequi and doing naughty things with a giant flower, driving to Monterey with Richard, five dollar bets with EEK. Watching the look of peace come over your face when you are hiking or the contented concentration of a baking project or grimace jizz. My favorite memories are of when you are happiest and I am there to enjoy it.

6. A bear. You are protective of your friends and will fight for them. You are playful at times and enjoy being with other people, while at other times you just want to hibernate in your bed and not come out 'til spring. You love the woods, are clever and intelligent, and who could say no to a picnic basket?

7. I don't think there's anything I haven't asked.

Anyone else?

Me? I am in the mood for this kind of thing these days...

I shall return the favor!

EEK, sorry this took so long! Visit from Mom and all that.

1. A poem of yours about NOLA is on our refrigerator.

2. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to work superheros or supervillains into your next non-book poem. Just because Hulk needs something to identify with.

3. I think of the purple of that scarf I made you a long time ago, with some blues and other assorted colors mixed in. And the light pink of your bleached/dyed/dye washed out hair that I've seen a few times during EEK visits.

4. I am always excited to get a postcard or little package in the mail. You are so good about correspondence and not forgetting the little people when you travel to fabulous places (like Nebraska City).

5. Well, there's my memory of the internet-you (in which I remember a discussion about oral sex and an announcement of your first (I think) wedded anniversary with The Boy. Wendy B + The Boy 2 Gether 4 ever or some such.). And there's also my memory of the in-person you, which was of me very drunk on copious amounts of sangria after no food, talking your ear off a mile a minute. And later you poked fun at me for that. I totally forgive you for mocking my drunken loquaciousness.

6. A bee. You have all kinds of projects going on at all times, though they are all kind of working toward the same goal of outlet of creativity; you are always moving; you like to travel and are attracted to pretty and colorful things (cities, stuff, words).

7. Are you ever tempted to just let your hair grow out to your butt? I just can't imagine you with other than short hair and I wonder if you've ever had hair even to your ears.

This is me popping in all tardy to say Frank Ewe MLE. You didn't have to do me here, it was up to me to request it, but frank you ever so much!

I just did EEK as well. Coincidence? I think NOT.

Aw, thanks! That was really nice. :)

Re: #7 - Once my hair stopped growing straight up as a babe, I had long hair. I guess by the time I was 4, it had grown long. I didn't get it cut to shoulder-length until 6th grade, then grew it back out. Chopped it into a 90s asymmetrical bob in 12th grade, but was lazy (and broke!) about haircuts in college, so I had plenty of long hair then, too.

My mom kept my hair long as a kid because her mother always made her pixie cut hers until she was old enough to insist on haircut autonomy. The thing is, my hair doesn't look very good long. It's very, very fine, and so it just hangs there limply, all of the wave weighted out, and there's not enough of it to look cute or even not look sickly in a ponytail, so that's why I keep it short with all of these choppy layers. But yeah, while it's never quite been to my butt, it's been way down my back.
